Reliance gas supply on Feb. 25
HYDERABAD Feb 3 : The long-awaited natural gas supply from the Dhirubhai wells of the Reliance Industries Ltd in the Krishna-Godavari basin, which can drastically change the State’s economic scenario, will finally commence on February 25.
This was announced by Governor N. D. Tiwari while addressing a joint meeting of the Assembly and the Council on Monday, when the 10-day budget session began.
As a result of the supply, five gas-based power projects -- which have been completed but are idle for want of gas --will begin generation and provide about 40 million units, pulling the State out of power shortage.
The projects accounting for an installed capacity of 1,700 MW are Vemagiri, Konaseema, Gauthami, GVK II and Reliance.
Sources said the natural gas supply would be five MCMD (million cubic metres a day) initially and 11 MCMD by April.
The RIL indicated the date following an interim order by the Mumbai High Court that it could sell its gas to outsiders also.
The Governor said the Krishna-Godavari Gas Network Ltd. restructured with RIL as a major shareholder was expected to cater to different needs of Hyderabad, to start with, by supplying compressed natural gas to automobiles, piped gas to households replacing LPG, and to industries/commercial establishments. The RIL gas would boost the manufacturing sector.
