Cong MLA quits party to join Chiru's Praja Rajyam
Hyderabad, Feb 4 : Senior Congress MLA from Malleswaram in Krishna district, Buragadda Vedavyas, has decided to join actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi's Praja Rajyam Party.
"I will resign from the Congress as well as the state Assembly on Wednesday and join PRP on February 5," Vedavyas said here today.
"I am impressed by the policies and philosophy of Praja Rajyam Party. Hence, I have decided to join it," he told reporters in the Assembly premises.
A leader belonging to Kapu community, he is related to Chiranjeevi's brother-in-law and PRP leader Allu Aravind. There had been a talk for sometime now that Vedavyas would join the PRP given his relationship with Aravind but the former went on denying any such plans.
Vedavyas, who had earlier served as the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, was being viewed with a lot of suspicion within the Congress and it left him peeved.
He, however, would not criticise the Congress though he was quitting it with a "heavy heart".
Vedavyas is the second Congress MLA from Krishna district to switch sides to the PRP in the last one month after Vijayawada East MLA Vangaveeti Radhakrishnan joined the Chiranjeevi camp.
Meanwhile, there are reports that Telugu Desam Party MLA from West Godavari Kottapalli Subbarayudu too would join the PRP soon. In fact, this speculation was on for a few months now but Subbarayudu has been maintaining a silence over the issue.
A former minister in the Chandrababu Naidu Cabinet, Subbarayudu is also the TDP's West Godavari district unit president
